‘A Journey Through Beer Styles’ - Tutored Beer Tasting

A tutored beer tasting from beer expert, Julia Gray.

This event is part of the Sheffield CAMRA Steel City Beer Festival 2022 (SCBF46).

You will be:

  • introduced to five beers, a mix of cask and key-keg, which are available at the festival.
  • provided with 1/3 pint of each beer, plus water and water biscuits.

The beers will be selected when the beer list for the festival is finalised. This is likely to be in mid-October. The selection will include both a variety of beer styles and a range of strengths.

Jules is an experienced beer trade professional with over fifteen years in the field. She owns a local independent award-winning beer shop and tasting room, Hop Hideout (established 2013). In 2015 she set-up a city-wide beer celebration in her hometown - Sheffield Beer Week. As director she has led the beer celebration to grow to over ten days across over 30 venues; showcasing both local and international breweries. The core strands promote beer and food pairings, community and heritage.

In 2018 she launched a new craft beer festival in Sheffield - Indie Beer Feast, attracting over 700 attendees at the one-day event. This grew to two days in 2019 and, in 2020, welcomed over 1,500 beer lovers.

Julia is a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers and has regularly judged beer in the World Beer Awards and SIBA national competitions. In 2021, with a group of like-minded beer shop owners, she launched Indie Beer Shop Day.

The Thursday tasting will occur at 19:30. The Friday tasting will occur at 16:30.

Both tastings will take place in the Power Room: over the bridge from the Main Hall, then turn left.

These beer tastings are part of the 2022 Sheffield Steel City Beer Festival. There is an extra charge of £10.95 per person.

You will need to enter the Beer Festival in advance of the tutored tasting. This entry will incur the normal Beer Festival admission fee:

Thursday: non-CAMRA members: £11.00 - CAMRA members: £8.00

Friday: non-CAMRA members: £13.00 - CAMRA members: £10.00

(entry includes, £5.00 beer tokens and £3.00 glass deposit)
