Expert Beer Tasting Session with Miles Jenner & Roger Protz (7pm start)

(18 tickets remaining)

As part of this year's Festival, we're staging a very special tutored tasting session, hosted jointly by Harvey's Brewery's head brewer and joint managing director Miles Jenner, and world-renowned beer writer Roger Protz. Starting at 7pm on the opening Wednesday of the festival, you'll be given a guided tasting through four very special Harvey's ales spanning a range of styles. As well as enjoying generous samples of each beer (included in the ticket price), you'll get to hear the stories behind the beers and the iconic Sussex brewery where they are produced. Head brewer at Harvey's since 1986, Miles has an incredible history in brewing and some fascinating tales to tell. Meanwhile Roger, who has written dozens of books about beer and for many years edited the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, will also offer his expert take on the characteristics of the beers and the origins and history of the styles. Both Miles and Roger will also take questions about their long careers and experience. This is a rare opportunity, and ticket numbers are strictly limited. The ticket package includes this guided beer tasting session, as well as general festival admission and a souvenir glass so you can then enjoy the rest of the festival once the session has concluded.

Thornbridge Union Beer Tasting Event (session 1: 6pm start)

(14 tickets remaining)

Hosted by Thornbridge Brewery's head brewer Rob Lovatt and renowned beer writer and expert Roger Protz, this not-to-be-missed event is a chance to learn about the Burton Union and its place in brewing history - before getting a guided tasting of four Thornbridge beers, two of which have been brewed using the set. When brewing giant Carlsberg Marston's announced, at the start of this year, that they were retiring their historic Burton Union system, Thornbridge stepped in. They negotiated to obtain a section of it, and have now installed it at their site in Bakewell, Derbyshire. You'll hear the story of how Thornbridge rescued a piece of brewing history and are now producing beers on a Union set, narrowly avoiding the entire process being consigned to the history books and drinkers never being able to sample beer produced in this unique way. There will also be the chance to chat and ask questions of both Rob and Roger about their significant, but very different, experiences of the brewing industry. Included in the price of your ticket is general Festival admission and a souvenir glass, so after the event has concluded you can explore and enjoy the rest of the Festival.
