‘Cask is Craft?‘
A tutored beer tasting and discussion led by beer expert, Julia Gray.
Friday 20th October 2023: 16:30-17:30
This event is part of the Sheffield CAMRA Steel City Beer Festival 2023 (SCBF47).
This tutored tasting will explore the depth and breadth of modern beer. You will be:
• introduced to four beers, two cask (gravity and hand-pull), one key-keg and one from a small pack (bottle or can).
• provided with 1/3 pint of each beer, plus water and water biscuits.
The beers selected will provide a variety of beer styles and a range of strengths.
Jules is an experienced beer trade professional with almost twenty years in the field. She owns a local independent award-winning beer shop and tasting room, Hop Hideout (established 2013). In 2015 she set-up a city-wide beer celebration in her hometown: Sheffield Beer Week. As director she has led the beer celebration to grow to over ten days across over 30 venues: showcasing both local and international breweries. The core strands promote beer and food pairings, community and heritage.
In 2018 she launched a new craft beer festival in Sheffield: Indie Beer Feast, attracting over 700 attendees at the one-day event. This grew to two days in 2019 and, in 2020, welcomed over 1,500 beer lovers. Successful events in both 2022 and 2023 have followed.
Julia is a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers and has regularly judged beer in the World Beer Awards and SIBA national competitions. In 2021, with a group of like-minded beer shop owners, she launched Indie Beer Shop Day.
This event will take place in the Power Room: over the bridge from the Main Hall, then turn left.
‘Cask is Craft?‘ is part of the 2023 Sheffield Steel City Beer Festival. There is an extra charge of £9.95 per person.
