Event Details

This is a coach trip to the winner of the Liverpool Beer Festival "Beer of the Festival 2023".

The coach departs at 10:30am sharp from the Borough Hotel on the corner of Standish Street and Great Crosshall Street, Liverpool L3 2BD. Arrival and Departure Point in Bolton is The Coach Park in the town centre. Departure time for the return trip is 5:30pm sharp so don't be late or you may have to find your own way home.

The Brewery Tap opens at 2pm and the presentation will be at 3pm, so you will have some free time in Bolton town centre to check out the pubs.

Bolton pub suggestions:

  • Man & Scythe still going strong. 4 ales with Bank Top Flat Cap permanent.
  • Barristers/Swan next door is ok but not as good as it was. It usually has BT Port o'Call on but not much else worth drinking
  • Northern Monkey Bar on Nelson Square is the best place. They usually do a couple of cask beers from other decent breweries plus craft keg stuff.
  • Spinning Mule across the Square is a good Spoons if you don't mind that.
  • Great Ale at the Vaults is ok and just next to it in the space below the shopping centre is Bar Four which can be decent
  • If you are walking from town to the Northern Monkey Brewery you will likely pass the Hen & Chickens and the Greyhound across the road from each other on Deansgate. Worth a look as very traditional boozers with occasionally interesting beers. Both have strong advocates in the Branch though they are inconsistent.
  • One for the Road on Bolton market has good beer if you don't mind sitting at a market stall. Shuts at about 5.30 when the market closes.
  • Sweet Green Tavern across from the train station has improved under new management in recent months. Usually 2 Hopstar beers though can vary.

We have over 190,000 members across the country who work to champion beer and drinkers as well as pub and club goers. Our campaigns range from protecting pubs threatened with closure, fighting unfair taxation on beer and cider and ensuring fair competition and choice in the pub and beer market.
Our members support well-run pubs as the centres of community life and believe their continued existence plays a critical social role in UK culture. For more information on our campaigns, please visit: camra.org.uk/campaigns
Our festivals are all about introducing you to great beer and are run by our members, who volunteer their time to make our events extra special. They bring together years of experience with a passion for top quality real ale and local knowledge that's hard to beat!
Mission:
• Protect and improve consumer rights
• Promote quality, choice and value for money
• Support the public house as a focus of community life
• Campaign for greater appreciation of traditional beers, ciders and perries as part of our national heritage and culture
